Destructive Love The theme of destructive love within relationships in Shakespeare s Macbeth and Bronte s Wuthering Heights are presented through sexism, jealousy, and betrayal. In Bronte s Wuthering Heights and Shakespeare s Macbeth there is a lot going on between the couples in both stories. In Macbeth, Lady Macbeth and Macbeth are in a terrible situation, starting off with Lady Macbeth pressuring Macbeth to kill Duncan. Macbeth not wanting to kill his king, finally caves in to his wife s request and ends up doing the deed. Lady Macbeth has her husband wrapped around her finger and she knows Macbeth will give her what she wants. In Wuthering Heights, Heathcliff is madly in love with Catherine and as she is with him but Catherine†¦show more content†¦Come let me clutch thee† (Shakespeare 2.1). Macbeth was also hurt because he is the one who is supposed to protect King Duncan from things like this and for him to do this it is ultimate betrayal. While Macbeth was thinki ng whether or not to kill Duncan, Lady Macbeth is now making him mad by questioning his manhood. She makes remarks like â€Å"When you durst do it, then you were a man† (shakespeare 1.7.49). Lady Macbeth does this to make Macbeth angry because she knows he will know do it in Spite of her questioning his manhood. Lady Macbeth is in total control in this situation she has Macbeth wrapped around her finger. Macbeth is fed up with always falling for what his wife wants because he realizes he s not in control over anything and that whatever she wants and he ends up giving it to her. After Macbeth killed duncan Lady Macbeth was pleased and there was no remorse from her over any of that she had gotten what she wanted. Then she got real mad at Macbeth and thinking of him as a coward because she had to go back herself and wipe the daggers on the guards clothes, because Macbeth couldn t do no more. Lady Macbeth would have killed duncan herself but while he was asleep she said he looked like her father while he was sleeping.
